Hall of Fame American Legion Baseball has a rich history in Washington State stretching back to 1928. Over those 85 years thousands of young men have competed in summer baseball and many of them learned skills that propelled them into becoming leaders in professional sports, business & industry, education, government and/or the private sector. The fundamental goal of the American Legion Baseball program is to teach all involved about the importance of becoming good citizens and to develop good skills that will benefit you for the rest of your life. Skills like; sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, pride, and to be responsible for your own actions, are all useful skills that can be beneficial to anyone in their daily lives.

Hall of FameAs in many sectors of our society, there are times we want to honor those people who have made a difference in the lives of our youth and/or who have gone on to make a difference in society. So the Washington State American Legion Baseball Commission established the Washington State American Legion Baseball Foundation and will have our first annual induction ceremony on November 3, 2012 in Seattle Washington.

Looking back over history can create a vision of the fabric of our country and how far we have come as a society in those 85 years. Through depressions, wars, conflicts and the fight for civil rights the game of baseball is an ingredient in the glue that has kept us together as a free and proud country. Stories are emerging as we do our research about players like Fred Hutchison (Fred Hutchison Cancer Center) who played Legion Baseball in the 1930s before going pro and how he was the star player in the Seattle area, or the story of the first African American ballplayer on a Yakima team in the 1950s that went into a restaurant to eat after a game and they refused to serve him, the team walked out the door. There are hundreds of stories like this we hope to collect and document so we can share them with all who participate in American Legion Baseball. We feel our history is great and we are extremely proud of the accomplishments of many of our former players, coaches, managers and volunteers who have added to the fabric of our American society.
